Since you’re here let’s take a stroll around the patio, shall we? I have some planters I want to show you. What’s that you ask? Oh, you want to know what the base is made from? Well I guess I’ve done a good enough job that it disguises the DIY File Cabinet Planter! That’s right, it was an old metal file cabinet! These are really unique and large which make a great space for several varieties of flowers, plants and even veggies!
This is a fun project to do and with so many file cabinets around- you can find one very inexpensively or even on the side of the road, so keep your eyes open! They also come in several sizes. Have you seen the two, three and four sectioned ones? And if you plan on moving it around, you can always put caster wheels on it like theses from Home Depot.
Mine cabinet was a two section and tan color but I think turquoise looks great on it and then I drilled some holes in the bottom for water to drain. Then you can add rocks, bark and soil in layers for proper drainage too.
Here is the DIY File Cabinet Planter on HSN and here’s a video as a #tbt for you to see!
It sure feels great knowing these aren’t going into landfills but are being refilled with beautiful vegetation! I just love that you love it. And If you feel inspired to make a DIY File Cabinet Planter, please tag it @ahostofthings and use #ahostofthingsDIY
