Hey, great to have you visiting! Even though turkey day is almost here…I’ve yes, been putting up Christmas decor already! But I try to do my best to blend both holidays. One thing I wanted to do this year was make a physical reminder of all that we are thankful for and I came up with this cute Embroidery Hoop Turkey DIY!
I mean, this is why we keep scraps of fabric…for these sort of rainy day, stop-everything and DIY kinda of moments. I’m glad I had everything I needed and didn’t have to make a trip to the craft store, which is even better!
It just take a few items you either already have or can easily and cheaply get. And of course it makes a great gift if you’re spending Thanksgiving at someone else’s home…or you can make them as a group. I think this would be perfect to make while waiting for the big meal or the big game!
Here’s what you need!
-1 Embroider Hoop, 10″
-1 Embroidery Hoop, 5″
-1 Square of fabric 12″ x 12″
-1 Square of fabric 7″ x 7″
-12 or more clothes pins
-Googly eyes, beak and wattle
-Glue gun, scissors, spray paint…the usual suspects.
First things first, I spray painted the embroidery hoops and clothes pins. I chose white but was debating to paint them gold. But I’m happy with the outcome! Customizing this little guy with your home decor colors and fabric is the best part. You can totally make it autumn colors, deep purple or bright colors! If you make one, I’d love to see how it turned out…so shoot me a DM on Instagram or use #IamAhostOfThingsToo
Once dried I put the fabric in and cut the excess off.
For this next part you can play around with the placement. I chose to put my small hoop an inch above the bottom of the big hoop but you and also put the small hoop toward the top. Depends on your turkey’s personality!
Then I hot glued the small embroidery hoop in place, glued on his face and covered the screw with a cute lil’ bow!
But he looks a little naked, right? So don’t forget the feathers! You can place all the clothes pins on the large hoop, keep them in a jar next to it or clip one on every place setting and pass him around as you say Grace.
But isn’t he the cutest?! I just love this lil guy!
