As you know, I love to repurpose items or use up excess items lying around the house…which was the case in my Glam Button Hot Pad DIY. Because I had so many extra metal buttons which were all still very pretty and usable, I thought they’d be a neat texture if I sewed them next to one another.
So if you want to make this Glam Button Hot Pad DIY… you can either either make the pot holder from scratch or buy one and just embellish with the buttons. This is such a cute gift to give and only take a little bit to make!
So attach your button sewing foot onto your machine and stitch each one on. Now if you make it from scratch, only sew through one layer before sticking the sandwich together, otherwise the stitches will show through both layers. Not a bad thing…if you are embellishing a ready made one, that will be the case but it’s still really cute! Just put another decorative element overtop of the stitches if you want.
And remember, only use metal buttons. Two or Four hole buttons work best as the item you are going to lay on top needs to lay level, like a tea pot or casserole dish.
I like finding buttons at antique shops too or buy an old sweater with interesting buttons. These always look cool and make the pot holder fun to look at. Or use what you got and that will turn out great too!
Design-wise you can either place the buttons right up against one another or in a start burst pattern. As long as they’re somewhat touching should protect the surface you’re putting it on. Remember, the item on top will be hot!
