Welcome again to A Host of Things! I hope you find something inspiring in every room you visit here at my humble ablog! If you find your way into the dining room, you’ll notice a very large Hula Hoop Wreath front and center! It’s one of my favorite DIY’s to date. Come, let me show you how I made it!
First of all, I love wreaths. But I really wanted an oversized wreath for this large wall. It’s pretty hard to one find in stores, so of course I decided to make it! Hula hoops are really fun to work with…they’re lightweight, cheap and flexible. So here’s what I did.
The hula hoop I chose was iridescent pink. So I got my trusty spray paint out and got to work! After a quick coat around the entire hoop, I decided to add some shine.
Gold leaf is another favorite crafty item and I highly recommend finding 5 uses for it! Just apply the gilding adhesive, let dry 2 minutes until tacky then apply the gold leaf and rub off with another dry paint brush. I opted for an imperfect look…I didn’t apply the gold leaf everywhere. But I think it turned out great!
Then I added the leaves with green floral tape, wrapping small bouquets at a time. And once I got the hula hoop wreath looking beautiful, I reinforced the bouquets with hot glue.
It’s quite the statement as you walk into our dining room, wouldn’t ya say? I’d love to know your thoughts on it, so feel free to let me know over on Instagram @ahostofthings !!
