Welcome to the foyer, entry way or as my husband just calls it, the lobby? Uhh sure! I can’t say that I’ve ever call it that, but maybe I’ll start! Welcome to the lobby everyone! Oh it’s raining hard outside, eh? That’s okay, you can leave your umbrella in this Mailbox Umbrella Stand Upcycle DIY right by the front door.
If you watch HSN, I make appearances on the At Home show (Tuesdays and Fridays 9am) periodically and create amazing DIY projects to inspire you! I recently showed how to upcycle an old mailbox into an umbrella stand. Since I didn’t have an umbrella stand at my house I chose to make one in my colors too! It’s super easy and you’ll finish it in 10 minutes. I’ll first show you how to make it and below are the one I made for myself, the one I made for HSN and one my mom made for her sister to give you ideas!
What you need
Old or new mailbox
Spray paint if you want to give it a new outfit!
Flower pot (preferably with holes)
Drill bit and coordinating Screw, Nut, Bolt (I used 1/2 of each)
Screw, Bolt and Nut
Upcycled Mailbox
Drill with metal drill bit the same size or a bit larger than the screw. I used 1/2 inch on everything and just wiggled the bit around the hole to make it just a touch larger for the screw to go through.
Close the mailbox front and place that end down on the floor with the secure end facing up vertically. Then drill your hole. Have a friend hold the mailbox to keep it from spinning!
Reach inside the mailbox and place the screw sticking out from the end. Then attach the flower pot and secure the two together with a nut and bolt.
All finished!
This is the one I made for HSN! Mint and Grey look super cute together!
My mom made this one for her sister!
So have fun with it and use different bases if you wish like a small crate, barrel or even a basket! Please share with me via Instagram @ahostofthings and use hashtags #IamAhostofthingstoo !!
