If you love mason jars…boy do I have a surprise for you! Let’s take a walk out back so I can show you my special tree! It’s my happy tree because it is filled with life! It’s got good critters crawling all over it and birds have made a home in this Mason Jar Bird House DIY!
I think bird houses are amazing! It’s so cool that we can build these little spaces and birds just magically find them! And I love that they make them livable and comfortable…always special to see an egg appear or little ones chirping!
So especially now that we have Saylor, who is a curious three year old, it’s fun to have certain animals around for her to learn from! Yes there are lots of ways to make a bird house, so if you have any other cute ideas you’ve tried, show me on Instagram and use #IamAhostOfThingstoo so we can all take a peek!
Here’s how to make one using a Mason Jar if you’re mason jar happy like the rest of the world is!
First, spray paint the exterior of the mason jar…this will help prevent predators from seeing the birds. Then place your old spoon like a perch toward the lip of the jar and glue it down. It should stick out a couple inches which is why a long spoon works especially well.
Once you’ve glued that down, wrap ribbon around the belly of jar and spoon leaving a loop at the top to tie it or hang it on a branch.
Then that’s pretty much it! Really simple…don’t you just love those kind of DIYs? Since they’re so simple, make a few and hang them like a neighborhood! And this is a great project to do this spring or summer with the kids too! No scary tools involved!
I made a video for HSN At Home Show, so be sure to watch for more details!
