If we take a walk into my kitchen, you’ll notice I am quite sentimental. Now, you might think a kitchen is an odd place that would reveal that about someone but let’s take a deeper look. My Tea Towel Banner DIY is an easy way to hold on to keepsake dish cloths, for example and repurpose them in a cute way.
I also love recipes from my family members and dishes from them too. Since I don’t live near a lot of family on my side, by keeping some of these items, it makes it seem like they are nearby.
So if you have keepsake cloths, anything from clothing to embroidered dishtowels, try making them into a cute banner you could hang a lot of places! You can hang it in a children’s room, above a window, around a play tent, or even on the Christmas tree! I hope I got your wheels spinning!
If you are new to sewing, this is a perfect beginner project you will love to make! It’s also a go-to gift idea I gave to several friends having babies. I just placed the baby’s name on the triangles and it was a big hit.
Here’s how simple it is to make and a video to go along too that I shared on HSN At Home Show!
What you need are a few simple items and a sewing machine! If you don’t have one, there are lots at reasonable prices on HSN or you can borrow from a friend. Either way, I want to encourage you to start sewing to find out how fun and amazing it is!
For the banner you’ll need…
The first thing you’ll do is cut out triangles from your cloth. You can make as many as you’d like, there are no rules here! However, I will tell you that odd numbers are more appealing to the eye, so I suggest an odd amount.
Then sew along the edges. I find it helps to sew before cutting. I planned on having a rough, raw edge with pinking sheers but if you’d like to serge or do another fancy edge, of course you can!
Then I cut out the triangles with pinking sheers.
Ta da! If they unraveled, it would only be up until the sewn line.
After that you can sew them onto your ribbon!
Add a few buttons in between using your sewing machine too or pom poms look great too!
Pretty cute, eh? I think so! Feel free to get super creative with this one and make it your style, colors and patterns you love.
